Track Biography:

The Mid-Antrim Hunt was formally set up in the 1870’s as a harrier pack, although it was in existence for at least a hundred years before that. It was believed to have had its first official meeting in The Thatch Pub in Broughshane in 1875.

The Mid Antrim point-to-point Course is just outside Moneyglass very close to Toomebridge. Toome or Toomebridge (from Irish: Tuaim, meaning "tumulus"), is a small village and townland on the northwest corner of Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Moneyglass was at one time home to Malachy McCourt and his family who was the father of Frank McCourt, author of Angela's Ashes, a winner of The Pulitzer Prize, the NBCC Award, The LA Times Award and the Royal Society of Literature Award.

Champion National Hunt jockey and 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner, Tony McCoy, who received an OBE in 2010, was born in Moneyglass.

Another sports star reared in Moneyglass was world famous Rugby Union player Willie John McBride who capped for Ireland on 63 occasions which includes 12 times as Captain.

Rob James was responsible for producing the winner of this race 12 months ago with the subsequent hurdle winner Cavalier Du Luy, and he could attempt to repeat the feat with PENNIES IN PARK. Like his 2025 winner, this Walk In The Park gelding has previous form in the book which can be crucial around here, having finished fourth at Lisronagh in February when sent off as the favourite. Of the others with valuable previous experience, Mr Tambourine represents the in-form Jonathan Fogarty stable, a yard to follow in this division of late, and they could also field the newcomer Magellan Dirlande, whilst Tonightsagoodnight also showed promise on debut.

WERWEISS was sent off as the favourite when making his debut around here in October, and he was still going well when coming down four-out. Further mistakes have cropped up at Loughanmore and Kirkistown, although there were more promising signs last time, and if putting in a clear round of jumping, he would look to set the standard. The Stormy Ranger has not been seen since early November, but encouragingly, that was a personal-best effort, and he would have to be a contender returning from that break, whilst Modern Day Hero and Two Walking Sticks are others for the shortlist.

Stuart Crawford and Ger Quinn have won the last three renewals of this between them, and that could continue once again as they look to hold all the aces. Werweiss has an alternative entry earlier on the card, but he offered plenty of promise when placed at Kirkistown last time. Two Walking Sticks has not been able to repeat his Fairyhouse effort from 12 months ago in three outings this term since changing stables, but this should be a drop in class, whilst Boldplay would hold place claims once again on her Loughanmore effort.

In a very open-looking race, it could be worth taking a chance on the newcomer ANNIE EILE as she is a well-related daughter of Mahler, being a half-sister to the 145-top rated Annie Mc who started her career for the same connections. Of those who have previously seen in competitive action, Glenmalure Flyer would certainly not be winning out of turn. She has already finished placed five times this season, whilst Pacie Macie posted a career best when finishing second in a big field maiden at Tullaherin.

Successful in this race two years ago, WINGED LEADER could get back to winning ways here after he met with a narrow defeat at Loughanmore a month ago. Beau Walking has struck up a great partnership with Nicole Lockhead Anderson, and he could aid her title aspirations here fresh from a fifth success of the season at Lisronagh just last Sunday, when his jumping proved to be a real asset, which will be beneficial around here. Of the others, Werweiss steps into open company for the first time, but looks well up to getting involved after his Portrush success, whilst City Chief and Yewtree Hill are others with place claims.

Having disappointed when an odds-on favourite in this race 12 months, UNFORTUNATECHARLIE will bid to make amends in what will only be his second run since then. The seven-year-old looked booked for a maiden success at Kirkistown in November, only to have victory snatched from him in the final stride, but with a subsequent winner emerging from in behind him that day, he looks the most likely winner of this. The progressive Lurig is open to further improvement following his third at Portrush, whilst stablemate Tadino posted a career-best at Loughanmore last time, which would have to be respected.
