Track Biography:

The South Westmeath Hunt have a long history of holding a point-to-point meeting spanning over 100-years as far back as the early 1900’s. The point-to-point was originally held in Kilkenny West before being moved to Listisson, The Pigeons in 1978.  In 2020 they moved to their current location Umma House.

Situated less than 15km`s south-west of their former long-standing course, the track is a good galloping track with two long straights.

Facilities

We are delighted to be able to provide free parking which allows spectators to have a clear view right around the track. This also allows the public to stay dry in their car without missing out on any of the action if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

Looking to keep updated with on-track racing which is also taking place on same day in Britain or Ireland? Well you won’t miss a thing. Head over the bookmaker’s ring where all of the day’s off-course horse racing, be it at Leopardstown or Cheltenham, will be shown and you can also bet on the away action alongside our own races.

As we are an outdoor event that only happens once a year, many of our facilities are only temporary which adds to the real character of the event. We do of course have a number of portaloos, catering options and much more to ensure you have a very pleasant experience with us.

Food

In between races, spectators can avail of the variety of catering options that we have on offer.

Our food tent is located beside the parade ring which means you don’t have to venture too far from the action to enjoy the social side of point-to-pointing.

There is also a choice of soup and homemade sandwiches on offer supplied by our committee members.

If hot food isn’t what you are looking for, we also have a delicious selection of cakes, buns and other tempting sweet treats that are made fresh by our hard-working committee members.

Beverages

We have a choice of hot drinks on offer, from teas and coffees to hot chocolates and soft drinks served to you from our tea tent and or our outside catering vendors.

faqs

Is there a dress code for point-to-points?

No, we do not have an official dress code we just advise our race goers to stay warm and dry for your days racing and to prepare yourself for all types of Irish weather.

Yes, we allow dogs to attend the point-to-point. However, we do ask that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times.

Yes, we welcome visitors to bring their own picnics as our parking inside the center of the course offers the perfect location for a picnic. We also have a range of catering options on course if you fancy picking-up something tasty on the go.

At our point-to-point, we are lucky to have wide open spaces for children to play in a safe environment.

No we do not provide an ATM but we our only a short drive from the village of Glasson which has ATM facilities so we recommend that you stop over on your way to the races.

Amenities

A day at Umma House point-to-point races is the ideal day out for all the family in the heart of the Irish countryside.

One of the real treats of racing at Umma House, is just how close racegoers can get to the action. Watch the horses being saddled up by their trainers before making your way to the parade ring where the horses, jockeys and connections gather to discuss their pre-race tactics.

Selected your fancy for the race? Well head over to the betting ring where our friendly bookmakers are waiting to take your bet for the race and now it’s time watch the race itself.

Our younger racegoers are at the heart of our race day with free admission for children under 16 ensuring it is an inexpensive location for Mum and Dad to bring the whole family out on a Sunday afternoon.

Baby changing facilities are available and if you ever need a bottle heated then please just ask a committee member.

REDACRESMIRIAM chased home a horse that was subsequently sold to Nicky Henderson for 290,000stg when she finished second on debut in a Monksgrange maiden that is typically hotly contested. That looks to be the best piece of form from those with previous experience. Miss Valdez could be the likely pace-setter, having made the running in each of her last two starts, and she has twice made the frame. Tip Your Hat still held claims when falling two-out in Dromahane, whilst Graceful Poet finished fifth at Ballindenisk.

Colin Bowe introduced the subsequent Grade 1 winner Skylight Hustle to win this race back in 2024, and he is not short of possible contenders for this latest renewal of the race, having entered seven horses, including Cluain Meala and SUNSET CAROUSEL. The latter looks to be the pick of them, as having finished second in Castlelands, he was in second when falling two-out behind a horse that was subsequently bought by JP McManus for E320,000. Poets Legacy, Silent Reckoning, Pennies In Park, and Unfamiliar Poet have all offered promise.

CAPTAINS SONG finished a close fourth in the four-year-old geldings maiden on this card 12 months ago, and having pulled up in more testing conditions at Borris House on his only subsequent run, connections will be hoping he can bounce back to form. Stablemate Presidential Order also made an encouraging start to his career last autumn; Chinook Run was not without his chance when falling three-out in Dawstown, whilst Friends Of Barry and In Around Thehouse were both placed under rules during the summer.

The form of the two races that JUNIOR F finished placed in at Durrow and Rathcannon in the spring has been franked since, with the winners of both races each having subsequently won over hurdles. That gives her form a positive shine ahead of her return to action. Poetry Motion has an easier alternative in Loughanmore, but should not be too far away if taking up this engagement, whilst Talladega has posted some respectable efforts over hurdles during the summer.

The Grade 1 Bumper winner REDEMPTION DAY has been absent for over a year and a half, but if the now nine-year-old retains most of his old ability, he is sure to be a fascinating prospect in this sphere. North Lodge is another track recruit. He won a Grade 2 and placed in Grade 1 company at Aintree during his novice hurdle campaign; however, he has only run once in the last two years. is the other interesting track recruit in this. Of those with point form, Big Interest had a disappointing campaign last season, which may leave Yewtree Hill as the danger.

BALLYEDWARD was last seen finishing fourth in a Down Royal handicap hurdle off a mark of 97, and that looks like the form to follow in this. Supreme Walk has a lengthy absence to overcome but did show promise as a five-year-old, whilst Derby Rock has the fitness edge having finished second last Saturday in Castletown-Geoghegan, and this is a race that his handler Pa King won 12 months ago.
