Track Biography:

The Galway Blazers have a long history of holding a point-to-point dating back over a hundred years. The hunt dates from the beginning of the 19th century and has established itself as one of the famous Irish Hunts due to the goodwill and generosity of farmers and landowners throughout the county.

We run two meetings a year at Dartfield just outside Loughrea with the first one taking place in October and the second fixture being held in April. The course is situated at Dartfield Horse Museum and heritage centre which is set on 350 acres of parkland just forty minutes from Galway city.

Over the years, Loughrea point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as Bewleys Berry, Boys Hurrah, Brindisi Breeze, Never Compromise and King Johns Castle.

MISS VALDEZ signed off on the spring with a career-best effort in Ballindenisk, finishing a fine second, with a subsequent wide-margin winner behind her providing an early boost to the form. Stablemate Roze posted two similar efforts in the spring, whilst Liberty Lou Lou has the most experience to draw upon, having run four times in the spring. Of the newcomers, Antique Fortune is a half-sister of the Grade 3-placed Broomfield Bijou.

SUNSET CAROUSEL was in pursuit of the subsequent E320,000 seller Night League when tipping up two-out in Ballysteen last April, and he could gain compensation here. Stablemate Cluain Meala failed to finish at Portrush but had finished second in Knockanohill on debut, whilst Shadow Of Dawn finished third in a Curraghmore maiden that has already produced a subsequent winner. Of the newcomers, Menelas Colombe certainly stands out. Bought for E150,000, he is a half-brother of the five-time Grade 1 winner Gerri Colombe.

A third consecutive placed finish had looked to be on the cards for POETS LAUREATE until he came down at the final fence in Ballyknock. With that form behind him, he likely sets the standard for this. Fierce Friend has changed stables since finishing second in Ballindenisk, and his new yard were among the winners on the opening day of the new season last week, whilst Bedtime Bob, Thatildojon and Cool Eagle are others with previous placed form.

The form of the two races that JUNIOR F finished placed in at Durrow and Rathcannon in the spring has been franked since, with the winners of both races each having subsequently won over hurdles. That gives her form a positive shine ahead of her return to action. Buddy And Me ended last season with a career best in Tattersalls. She only went down by a narrow margin on that occasion, whilst Nancy Wheeler was placed in a Wexford maiden hurdle last time.

The 92-rated hurdler COULDNTMAKEITUP has been placed four times on the track, and he could make an immediate impression on his initial outing in the pointing fields for James Nash. Supreme Walk has a notable absence to overcome, whilst the typically consistent Ballintemple King is never usually too far away, and can be excused one rare below-par effort in Ballingarry last time.

This does not look the easiest of puzzles to solve, but it could be worth siding with THE MALL MAN. He has changed stables since beating four subsequent maiden winners in a Dromahane adjacent race last November. Manor Gate made a winning debut in Belclare, and has since switched from Eamonn Doyle to his brother Sean, whilst it will be interesting to see how Stan Wellback fares. He has been absent almost a year and a half, but when he was last in competitive action, he beat a subsequent Grade 2 winner at Ballysteen.
