Track Biography:

The Wexford foxhounds was formed in 1810 at Slevoy castle.

Our point-to-point has been in different locations over the years including Wexford racecourse, Gowran Park and Lingstown before being moved to its current location at Moorefields in November 2011. We run two meetings a year, one in the autumn at Knockmullen House, with our spring fixture taking place in Ballinaboola on the first weekend in February.

Set in the heart of Co. Wexford the course is left handed with a circuit of one mile and three fences in the home straight providing many exciting close finishes.

It is a very fair track of two long straights with two gentle left-handed bends, there are five fences on each circuit which measures a mile a lap.

The track has produced many top class individuals including the likes of Envoi Allen who made a winning debut in the four-year-old maiden in 2018 before progressing to become a multiple Grade 1 winner. That 2018 renewal also saw Appreciate It finish third, and he has also gone on to become a multiple Grade 1 winner in his own right for Willie Mullins.

Colin Bowe and Ellen Doyle have won two of the last three editions of this race, and both of those yards are well represented among the entries this time around. Despite being the first day of the new four-year-old maiden season, the field is not entirely made up of newcomers as Code Name Cubitt has the benefit of two previous runs. He contested a pair of Academy Hurdles for Gavin Cromwell in November and has since switched stables to join Ian Donoghue.

SIMONSBERG would be a popular local winner if stepping forward to take this. The Tirwanako gelding finished behind the now three-time track winner Ballyfad at Fairyhouse on his debut and he then finished third at Ballindenisk in November on his return to action. Barbar Esko will have to bounce back from his non-completion at Ballycrystal in December, but he was only beaten seven lengths at Umma House on debut.

Just a length separated GALATRONA and French Adventure when their paths crossed at Carrigarostig in January, and the former will be looking to confirm that form here now that she has her opening effort under her belt. Her stablemate Dedudefromhouston kept on well to take third at Ballycrystal on debut and is also open to further progress, whilst Fine Thing showed some progression on her return to action at Dromahane in November.

The well-related SIR TOPHAM HATT is from the family of Lord Windermere and Sub Lieutenant, and the E70,000 store purchase was sent off as the favourite for his debut in Boulta in early December, and whilst he only finished fourth, he was beaten just five lengths in a race that has already produced three subsequent maiden winners. Kildare Dirlande went close at Quakerstown on his debut, and he followed that up by again finishing second in what was likely a stronger race at Boulta. He is the obvious danger ahead of the Dromahane runner-up Cloughmoyle Jewel.

CEBU CITY has finished second in both starts this season since joining Sonny Carey, and after bumping into what was likely an above-average winner for the age group in Tinahely, he should get a deserved victory here. Coolcullen has a similar record having finished second in three consecutive starts this season, whilst Occupational Force would also enter the equation if bouncing back to form following his Tinahely effort last time. Prior to that he has finished placed in his three previous outings this season.

THE GREAT UNKNOWN has already beaten the boys in open company, so she would look to set a strong standard in this and comes into this following back-to-back victories in her two runs this season. She has not run since November, whereas Hearts And Spades could be turned out just eight days after becoming the first horse this season to win four races, whilst Gale Force Jet put up his best performance to date when at Tinahely last month when recording the second of his two open wins this season.
