Track Biography:

The Tynan and Armagh hunt can be traced back as far as 1840, when Sir James Stronge of Tynan Abbey estate started the pack at his own expense calling it the Tynan Harriers. The Tynan Harriers sometimes hunted with Lord Waterford’s Armagh Harriers and from these two the Tynan and Armagh hunt was born in 1895.

The first point-to-point was organised in 1895 and has remained at Farmclaffey since then making it one of the oldest point-to-points on the fixture list.

Over the years, Farmacaffley point-to-point has produced many top national hunt stars such as 2002 Grand National winning Bindaree and Cheltenham Gold Cup runner-up Truckers Tavern.

Two of the three previous winners of this race hold entries for the upcoming Cheltenham Festival, with hopes high that another smart prospect can emerge from the 2026 edition. Bushman and Ballynulto both boast previous form but there are a number of interesting newcomers, including Lou Prince and Helios Forlonge, who were notable purchases from the sales.

Two lengths separated REPLONGE and the well-backed favourite, Thats It Paddy, when their paths crossed at Nenagh a fortnight ago, and it will be interesting to see if that market confidence behind the latter points towards a possible reversal of those placings here. Of the others, Intense Appeal had finished second on debut 12 months ago, but has been unable to reproduce that since.

FORTUNE LAD gained his first success since changing stables at Oldtown last Saturday, and having run out an impressive winner on that occasion, he could swiftly add to his tally here if not inconvenienced by the quick turnaround. Clough Clouds was second in the five-year-old maiden on this card 12 months ago and looked to run a career best at Kirkistown, whilst Mister Frostie won an English point-to-point at Hexham in late November for Joe Wright and has since rejoined Colin McBratney.

CRAZY NANCY was only denied by a head on the opening day of the season at Toomebridge, and this could be a nice opportunity for her to go one better. Glenmalure Flyer has the advantage of recent race fitness, as she has been busy of late, finishing second in each of her last two outings, including at Tinahely just six days ago, whilst Morissette has not finished outside of the first three in her two outings in this sphere, and is another contender.

WINGED LEADER has made this race his own, winning four of the last five editions, and having already won twice this season, including at Kirkistown earlier in the month, he could be tough to oppose around this course, which typically brings out the best in him. His stablemate Ramillies had a disappointing end to last season but is capable of better, whilst Gold Cup Bailly ran well at Bellharbour behind the top mare The Great Unknown, form that has been advertised since.

This could be a nice opportunity for MACKIESHILL if he were able to bounce back from his latest effort in Kirkistown, as prior to that, he had hit the crossbar in consecutive outings. Stablemate Ballykelly has not run since Easter, but is another with previous placed form, whilst Vicomte Le Brave bumped into what was likely an above-average winner for the division at Ballygogue House last weekend.
